It is said that no specialized technicality is required to scale Chulu West Peak. However, one needs a high physical and mental-well being and the climbers have to deal with steep rocks and thick snow. So it depends on the weather condition. Equipments for professional climbing are required during the climb. Historically, Chulu West was first climbed in 1952 by a Japanese Expedition. Before you go to scale the real summit, you have to face some technical steep rocks and thick snow.

This daring trekking in Nepal commences after you have a short scenic drive to Khudi and the trail ascends to Manang Valley which is considered to be one of the highest and marvelous valley of the world enriched with both culturally and naturally. You will set up two camps above the Base Camp. After Scaling the Chulu West, you will return via the Thorong-La Pass, one of the highest passes in trekking in  Nepal and then Muktinath to Jomsom. From Jomsom, you will take a fly to Pokhara and finally you will drive back to Kathmandu.

For climbing Chulu West Peak, we do not necessarily be with prior climbing experience. However, certain trekking and hiking experience will be an important asset. The climbers are supposed to be familiar with climbing equipment. We also provide basic climbing skills at Base Camp.

 How difficult is Chulu West  Peak climbing?

Actually, climbing Chulu West Peak is not technically Challenging. The  knowledge on using equipment and previous experience would be an asset although not mandatory because a pre-ice climbing training will be provided at the Base camp  to make one skillful on using climbing gears such as ropes, ice pick, harness, crampons. This adventure requires normally 5-6 hours of walking every day and some days even 8-10 hours- such as on the summiting day. For this, the individual adventure seeker should have a good level of stamina and good health condition. We, Magic Expedition designs such itinerary in order to avoid altitude sickness and other problems that may occur during our adventure to Chulu West Peak.

Can anyone join? –

Yeh, we can join the group because climbing is considered to be easier in a group. However, solo climbing is also possible. We will be accompanied with an international climbing leader with other members if we join the group. Each member will be found helping each other during the climb.

Do I need any prior climbing experience for Chulu West Peak Climbing? –

Actually, no prior climbing experience is mandatory for Chulu West Peak Climbing however, climbers are supposed to be with good level of physical fitness and prior trekking or hiking experience. That will be an important asset to the adventure seekers. No technical course of climbing is required for Chulu West  Peak climbing. However, one requires learning to use climbing gears such as ropes, ice pick, harness, crampons. This basic training will be given at Base Camp.

What is the success rate on Chulu West Peak  climb? –

It was 100 % in 2017.  We have been operating Chulu West Peak Climbing for the last 10 years and we have resulted 90 percent success rate. Sometimes, due to not ample acclimatization and bad weather condition, can’t triumph over it.

How is the climbing Day? Do we start early in morning?

Obviously, the climbing day is the most significant day in this adventure trip. We have to be both physically and mentally committed and equipped to scale this peak. We begin our trip early in the morning at around 3 because we have to face strong blow of wind if we do not move earlier. We have to work hard for more than 8- 9 hours.  If we follow this time schedule, we scale the summit at 9 and get back to the Base Camp for overnight stay. This scale is incredibly amazing and memorable.

How does Magic Expedition guarantee safety against Altitude sickness?

First, we guarantee against altitude sickness with apt acclimatization and the proper foods and safe drinking water in the high altitude. Secondly, we afford such team and the climbing leader who are very conscious about altitude sickness and they are always medically prepared. Similarly,  our team will carry oxygen cylinders and chambers and  you all will be strictly guided what to do and what not to do during the climb. So far, we haven’t faced such critical case regarding altitude sickness.

How is Jomsom Airport? How long is the flight?

Jomsom Airport is located at the bank of Kaligandaki River. The planes have to pass through the gorges but are safely handled and landed. These are smaller planes which adjusts around 35 passengers. This flight from Pokhara lasts for only 25 minutes. This short flight is scenic which offers an opportunity of witnessing Annapurna mountain range.

What are the average hours walking per day on Chulu West Peak  ? –

It is 6-8 hours per day.  But the day we head to scale Island Peak will differ as your pace in the higher elevation. This includes ample acclimatization and we even have opportunity to explore the mountain and the trails.

What kind of food and accommodation are we to expect in the trip?

The accommodation will be normal mountain accommodation with clean common toilet. Occasionally, we get attached accommodation but hard to find. These mountain lodges will offer you the best class of accommodation.

We will have several options for food. The restaurants will offer us almost every item that we get in cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara. The foods they offer will be better than we have in major cities. You will experience organic flavor of food items.

 Can I charge my devices and have hot showers in Chulu West Peak trek?

Yes, you can charge your devices like cell phone and camera in every lodge or guest house you stay. But they charge you very little amount of money. It may be like between 100-200 Nepali rupees. We better recommend you to bring own back up or extra charged battery which will be more convenient.

We say ‘Yes’. We get hot shower all round the trip. This also costs extra money. This may varies from 2-7 dollars. But, we and our don’t allow you to take shower at the base camp because of probable crisis in the high altitude regarding health . Rather, we provide you a big bowl of hot water for your cleaning.

What if I am very slow in the group?

In order to avoid slow pace of the climber, the leader will frequently counsel to walk together because problem can be solved easily in a team. If such situation occurs, the leader will take care of those who walk slow and his assistants will take care of the others to make the trip less strenuous.

What about drinking water facility?

We are environmentally aware and our team as well. We don’t allow our clients use plastic bottle for carrying water in the mountain. Rather, we request you to bring nelgene metal water bottle which you can fill with boiled water. Every guest house provides boiled water which is safe to drink. This is provided without any extra charge.

Do I need the travel insurance for emergency to join the climb of Chulu West Peak  ?

We strongly suggest to have all inclusive travel insurance for this climb. We don’t expect any extremity in the mountain because our leader is well trained but in some cases, we may have to evacuate the climber form the mountain. So, in order these situations, travel insurance is must.

What permits are required for Chulu West Peak  climbing?

We need to obtain Chulu West Peak  Special Climbing Permit, Annapurna Conservation Area and  National Park Entry Permit and TIMS which we, Magic Expedition and Tour will collect for your convenience.

Is it doable in winter?

Chulu West Peak Climbing can be done all round the however the winter months are chill and the climbers have to protect themselves from cold. If we do proper precautions, of course, we can do it. Many of the adventure lovers escape winter for doing Chulu West Peak Climbing.

What is the best time to do Chulu West Peak  ?

April to mid June during spring and September to November during autumn before the acute winter is considered to be the best time to climbChulu West Peak. These two seasons offer the view of 360 degree mountain range and astounding landscapes.

Day 1:Arrival in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel - 1,300m/4,264 ft

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our representative will receive you there and transfer to hotel. In the evening, we will have short orientation about the trip information and we will let you see your guide and porter or the climbing leader.


Day 2:Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trekking Preparation

This sightseeing tour commences after breakfast at around 8. You will have lunch during the tour in the afternoon. So, you have better have some money, Nepali currency is expected. For the whole day  You will be exploring Kathmandu valley, a valley of temples, major historical  cultural heritages  like Swoyambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bouddhanath, Pashupatinath which are enlisted in UNESCO World heritage sites. The tour ends at around 4 pm-Overnight in Hotel-


Day 3:Drive Kathmandu to Syange/Jagat [1100m/3608 ft]: 8 - 10 hrs

We begin our drive after breakfast. It is a jeep drive. The road till we get Besisahar is smooth but the ending part of the drive is off road. However, the drive is pleasant in the country road experiencing beautiful settlements, rivers, forests and so on. We also happen to see some mountain peaks during our drive toaday. Overnight at guest house at Jagat.


Day 4:Trek Syange/Jagat to Dharapani [1,960m/6,430ft]: 7 - 8 hrs

Today is the beginning day of trekking in the mountain along off the beaten tracks. We get fully prepared with all required equipment.  We trek today for 7- 8 hours in the country. We have so many insights of remote life, culture, picturesque settlements and some mountains too. Overnight at Guesthouse at Dharapani.


Day 5:Dharapani- Chame [2,710m/8,891ft]: 6 - 7 hrs

Trekking Dharapani to Chame is just a beautiful experience. Sometimes along the river side and sometimes passing lush green forest like maple and oak is spectacular. We witness some magnificent mountain views and our cameras, of course, do not wait not seizing the picture of those alluring peaks. Overnight at guest house at Chame


Day 6:Chame- Pisang [3,300m/10824ft]: 5 - 6 hrs

The trail follows through steep and narrow river valley with deep forest. Along the way you will be rewarded with the best mountain view of Pisang peak and Annapurna II. Overnight at guesthouse, inclusive of full board meals


Day 7:Pisang to Manang

Up Today we can follow the two routes to reach Manang; the easier low route follows the valley floor via Hongde and the strenuous route follow along the river north side of the valley which takes about 3 hour more than normal lower route. The trail goes through the fields of grazing Yak and a wide variety of crops before arriving Manang which provides the spectacular views of Annapurna 2, 3, 4, Gangapurna and Tarkekang. From Manang trail descent to a Chortens and turns to northwest and goes down to the River. After crossing the Jharsang Khola on suspension bridge the trail goes through blue pine forest and the wheat fields before arrive Khangsar, Khangsar is a Gurung village. There you find a small monastery, Chortens, Mani walls and prayer flags. Stay overnight at camp in Khangsar. Overnight at guesthouse, inclusive of full board meals


Day 8:Manang: Rest

This is a rest day to acclimatize to the higher altitude. Spend a time with visiting monastery, side trip to Gangapurna Lake, doing some excursions with the wonderful views around the villages. Also we visit Himalayan Rescue Association Clinic. Overnight at guesthouse, inclusive of full board meals


Day 9:Manang to Leder [4200m/13,776ft]: 4 - 5 hrs

Today we leave Manang, & the trail makes an ascent of nearly 2000m to the Thorung La pass. We make the climb steadily through Tenki, leaving the Marshyangdi Valley. Continuing along the Jarsang Khola Valley, we reach Ledar at 4250m, there we see the vegetations steadily more sparse. Overnight at guesthouse at Ledar.


Day 10:Leder to Chulu West Base Camp [4900m/16,072ft]: 4 - 5 hrs

Today,  our further effort takes us from Leder to Chulu West Base Camp. This Chulu  West Base Camp, we can enjoy the magnificent views of Annapurna Himalayas. We will be setting our camp among the mighty Himalayas for the next day climb. Overnight in Tent at Base Camp.


Day 11:Chulu West base camp to camp I [5100m/16,728ft]: 4 - 5 hrs

Today, we again continue our venture at higher elevation. We climb from Base Camp  to Camp I. The views of Annpaurna, Dhaulagiri, Gangapuran and Manasalu will be more astonishing. Overnight in tent at Camp-I.


Day 12:Rest & Acclimatization at Camp I

This is the day to experience high mountain kingdom and capturing breathtaking views  and exploring mysterious summits. While we do acclimatization  at Camp I, the leader or the guide will do all preparation to go to Camp II.  Overnight in tent at camp I


Day 13:Camp I to Camp II [5,530m/18,143ft]: 4 - 5 hrs

After we acclimatize at Camp, we climb up to Camp II.  Though the climb is not technical, we have to use ropes, crampons and ice axe. The climb from Camp-II to the summit is steep. So we set camp at Camp-II and spend the night there.


Day 14:Summit Chulu West [6419m/21,055ft] and back to Camp I: 9 - 10 hrs

Today is the most significant day for us and it’s gonna be longer working day. We have to work each minute very carefully for we are climbing steep mountain in higher elevation. After we summit the peak, we return back to Camp-I. The mountain scenery will be absolutely alluring. Overnight at Camp-I


Day 15:Camp I to Leder: 5 - 6 hrs

This is descent all the way back to Leder. At Leder, we celebrate our successful victory over summit. Still, on the way, we celebrate magnificent views of Annapurna.


Day 16:Contingency Day

This day is spare day because, sometimes, the climbers may require more days for acclimatization or due to bad weather, we need to wait for sometime at higher altitude. If everything goes fine, we actually don’t need this day.


Day 17:Leder to Thorong Phedi [4450m/14,596ft]: 3 - 4 hrs

From here the trail continue climb along the bank of the Jorsang Khola, It is some time possible to see herds of blue mountain sheep. Overnight at guesthouse.


Day 18:Thorong Phedi - Thorong Pass [5416m/17,765ft] - Muktinath [3,800/12,467ft]-Jomsom [2,715m/8,910ft]: 7 - 8 hrs trek and 2 hrs drive

We do relatively harder work. The initial work is harder to pass Thorang Pass and we arrive at Muktinath. Muktinath is a popular Hindu pilgrimage site. The 108 water spout and the natural flame amaze us. Then again we have to drive to Jomsom on local bust or jeep to get next day flight to Pokhara.


Day 19:Jomsom to Pokhara by flight

After our breakfast, we take a short spectacular flight to Pokhara. It is 30 minutes flight form Jomsom. In the afternoon, we relax at Pokhara and do sightseeing tour to major places in Pokhara. Overnight at Hotel at Pokhara


Day 20:Drive or fly back to Kathmandu

Tourist bus station is around 15-20 mins.walk from Lakeside, Pokhara or optionally, you can take taxi. The leader will help to get the bus station. The tourist bus leaves at 7.30 for Kathmandu every morning. It takes around 7-8 hours to get Kathmandu form Pokhara. On the way, you will see winding country road, river, woods and local people and their life style.  However, we must say, the condition of the road is not good. Sometimes, bumpy and dusty…. To escape it, you, optionally, can go with flight. It is a 35 minutes flight from Pokhara  to Kathmandu which is optional and have pay extra.

In the evening , after you get to the hotel, we will have dinner together and review the trip and exchange the experiences during your trip and you can feedback us-oevrnight in hotel-


Day 21:Drop to the airport. Farewell and Departure

According to your flight schedule, we will  drop to the airport for the onward flight towards your country or next destination
